Washington (CNN)Sherrod Brown, the populist Democratic senator from Ohio, said Monday that he had no interest in serving as Hillary Clinton's vice president, distancing himself from the job as reports floated that he could be considered.

"I've made it clear I don't really want this job," Brown told CNN, calling the speculation "flattering." "I don't want to be president."
Brown, who is aligned with the wing of the Senate Democrats led by Elizabeth Warren, endorsed Clinton in October, even though the former secretary of state's rival, Bernie Sanders, is running a primary campaign to her left.
Clinton could look to choose a vice presidential nominee from that part of the party in order to capture younger, more ideological Democrats who have flocked to Sanders' campaign.
Clinton won Ohio's Democratic primary last month.
