(CNN)President Obama unveiled an executive action on Tuesday that will expand background checks for gun buyers by narrowing the so-called "gun show loophole."

​Surrounded by survivors of gun violence and victims' families, he called on Congress to pass broader gun control legislation.
House Speaker Paul Ryan criticized the president, saying his actions targeted law abiding citizens instead of criminals and terrorists.
