- Donald Trump said Hillary Clinton "lies like crazy"
- She suggested his rhetoric is a recruiting tool for jihadists
During the Democratic presidential debate Saturday night, Clinton alleged Trump was "becoming ISIS' best recruiter" based on his call to ban Muslims from entering the country, and other recent comments.
"They are going to people showing videos of Donald Trump insulting Islam and Muslims in order to recruit more radical jihadists," the former secretary of state said.
On NBC's "Meet the Press," Sunday, Trump dismissed Clinton's criticism, knocking her as a "liar" and "weak."
"It's just another Hillary lie," Trump said. "She lies like crazy about everything -- whether it's trips where she was being gunned down in a helicopter, or an airplane. She's a liar and everybody knows that."
Hours later, Trump reiterated his comments up in a tweet, stating, "Hillary Clinton lied when she said that "ISIS is using video of Donald Trump as a recruiting tool." This was fact checked by @FoxNews: FALSE"
Trump resumed his criticism of Clinton on Twitter Monday morning, calling the story "disgusting" and demanding an apology. He tweeted, "Hillary said at debate ISIS is "going to people showing videos in order to recruit more radical jihadistst." She made up story-want apology!"
He continued, tweeting, "I demand an apology from Hillary Clinton for the disgusting story she made up about me for purposes of the debate. There never was a video."
And he also called into NBC's "The Today Show" Monday morning and demanded Clinton apologize to him.
CNN's Reality Check Team looked into Clinton's debate claim and found that although it is difficult to track all of ISIS' communication, there is no current evidence that backs up Clinton's claims about a specific video that features Trump.
There was no immediate response to a request for comment from CNN to the Clinton campaign.
