Roker and his crew are covering the floods in South Carolina

He deleted the offending photo and apologized

CNN  —

Al Roker has apologized for a selfie that was deemed insensitive.

The NBC weatherman shared a picture of himself and some of his crew as they covered storm-ravaged South Carolina on Sunday. Roker and two others are dressed for the elements and smiling while a damaged car rests in a portion of road collapsed by torrential rains.

South Carolina flooding: dams breached, more trouble ahead

Roker deleted the photo – which was captioned “My crew and I getting ready to report on East Coast flooding from S. Carolina on @NBCNightlyNews with Kate Snow” – after many on social media started complaining about the “disaster selfie.”

After the outrage, Roker tweeted, “I apologize for being insensitive,” and for those who had worried about the driver of the damaged vehicle, he added, “The woman in that car got out without injury. We Should not have been in the picture.”
