(CNN)A Nevada sheriff's deputy was killed moments after responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.

The deputy and other officers arrived at the home in East Carson City at 2:18 a.m. Saturday, the Carson City Sheriff's Office said.
Soon afterward, the male suspect came out of the house and opened fire, killing the deputy. Other officers evacuated three children, ages 8 to 13, and one adult from the house, the sheriff's office said.
Authorities said the suspect was found dead at the scene, but did not say how he died.
The sheriff's office has not released the names of the slain deputy nor the suspect. It has turned the investigation over to the nearby Reno Police Department.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval issued a statement Saturday mourning the loss of the deputy.
"I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the untimely death of a Carson City Sheriff's Deputy and pray for strength and peace for his family and fellow officers during this time of tragedy," Sandoval said, according to CNN affiliate KOLO.
"The death of this dedicated officer is a sobering reminder of the sacrifices our men and women in uniform courageously make each and every day as they protect our communities."
