Washington CNN  —

Former New York Gov. George Pataki said Friday that he was not worried about his standing at the back of a large GOP presidential primary field because it is still early in the race.

“If you look at history, the summer of the year before does not predict who the nominee is going to be,” Pataki told CNN’s “New Day.”

Pataki is set to appear Thursday at a pre-debate forum before the first Republican debate with other candidates at the back of the Republican field, meaning he’s polling in the bottom half of declared Republican presidential candidates.

Pataki, who has long self-identified as a pro-choice Republican, also said that the “horrific” new Planned Parenthood sting videos show the group should not receive any tax dollars.

“Disturbing is too kind a word. Horrific is the word that I would use,” Pataki said. “I think they’re doing something with callous disregard for humanity and people’s sensibilities. And I think that is horrible. And I don’t think they should be funded by the federal government.”

Pataki reiterated, though, that he does not support repealing Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision on abortion.
