(CNN)Singer Billie Holiday was born 100 years ago on April 7. For decades, her sultry, one-of-a-kind voice drew crowds and collaborators, and created hits like "God Bless the Child," "Strange Fruit" and "Lady Sings the Blues." The woman known as Lady Day died at age 44 from pulmonary edema and heart failure caused by cirrhosis of the liver, but fans and artists celebrate her now on social media.
