New York, NY (CNN)"Robots. They've been promised to us for generations -- that autonomous, thinking machines will revolutionize our work, our homes, and everything in between. Today, technology is advancing so rapidly that we might finally be on the cusp of the new age of robotics and artificial intelligence that we have dreamt about for so long.

"The question is: Are we ready for them and are they ready for us?" -- Morgan Spurlock
With these words, filmmaker, TV host and busy guy Morgan Spurlock sets off on a quest to find robots, androids and artificial intelligence to make life easier, more productive and way cooler. Siri is great but where's our "Jetsons" robot maid or fully functional "Star Trek" android?
Spurlock's first stop is to Dennis Hong's robotics lab, RoMeLa. Hong's robots are as cute as they are cutting-edge, but do they have what it takes to be personal assistants?
In Japan, Spurlock encounters androids designed to simulate the human presence. Are they lifelike enough to allow Spurlock to be in two places at once, virtually?

Is "telelpresence" the key to doubling Spurlock's productivity? A rolling robot called the BEAM promises to be the next best thing to being at home when stuck on the road.
Perhaps we're thinking too literally. Could the solution be in the software? Spurlock tests out an AI that can write entries for his company website, and a "chatbot" that does a pretty good impersonation. See for yourself.
Will Spurlock find better living through technology? Perhaps not, but over the course of an hour he learns a lot about the state of human-robot interaction today, and whether we should be worried about which of us will be on top tomorrow.
