(CNN) -- A suicide bomber detonated an explosives-packed rickshaw in a marketplace in northern Afghanistan, killing 15 people and wounding 37 others, a government official said Tuesday.

The attack took place at the Maimana bazaar in Faryab province, according to deputy governor Abdul Satar Barez.

The blast took place at a checkpoint about 300 meters (328 yards) from the governor's house.
