(CNN) -- Searchers in Virginia looking for a missing auxiliary police captain found a body Thursday afternoon. Authorities said they were in the process of identifying the remains.

A spokeswoman for Virginia State Police said the investigation into the disappearance of Kevin Quick was ongoing while officials examined the body, which was found along on the Fluvanna and Goochland county line.

Spokeswoman Corinne N. Geller said once the deceased was identified and the family notified, police would release the name.

Quick, 45, has been missing since Friday night. He is an auxiliary police captain in Waynesboro, west of Charlottesville. He was last seen at his mother's house in Afton about 10:15 p.m. Friday while he was off-duty.

He was reported missing after failing to show up for a brother's birthday party Saturday afternoon.

CNN first learned of the discovery of the body through Twitter.
