Michigan authorities were searching for a gunman who shot a Ferris State University student Saturday morning in an off-campus apartment, the school said.
The victim was being taken to a Grand Rapids hospital and isn't believed to have life-threatening injuries, the school said.
The shooting occurred in Venlo Place apartments in Big Rapids, the university said.
Residents there were being advised to stay indoors as police search for a suspect described as a 6-foot African-American male with dreadlocks, aged 20 to 25, 150 to 180 pounds, wearing black cargo pants, a red sweatshirt and black vest, the university said.
Authorities canceled the men's and women's basketball games against Saginaw Valley State University and the Big Rapids High School hockey game Saturday.
