Senior Egypt Interior Ministry official killed in Cairo

(CNN) -- A senior aide to Egypt's interior minister was killed Tuesday in Cairo, a presidential spokesman said.

Gen. Mohammed Said was shot and killed in the Giza area of Cairo near the Pyramids, according to spokesman Ehab Badaway, who said Said was believed to be on his way to work when the attack occurred.

State media described his killing as an "assassination."
