(CNN) -- Some 257,314 charred acres later, a massive Northern California wildfire that encroached into Yosemite National Park was fully contained Friday, officials said.

More than $127 million was spent to fight the Rim Fire, the third largest in state history. It covered 402 square miles.

The federal incident command reported 11 homes and three commercial properties were destroyed.

In September, the U.S. Forest Service said the wildfire began August 17 when a hunter "allowed an illegal fire to escape."

Although the fire consumed tens of thousands of acres inside Yosemite National Park, it had little impact on Yosemite Valley, a popular spot for tourists and home to many of the park's iconic attractions, including the El Capitan rock formation.

Only 42 firefighters were deployed Friday, officials said.
