(CNN) -- Gunmen targeted liquor stores in eastern Baghdad on Tuesday evening, killing 12 people, police officials said.
All the attacks occurred in the Zayouna neighborhood of the Iraqi capital, and they involved a number of perpetrators.
At least 10 gunmen in four vehicles -- all of them four-wheel drive -- parked outside four liquor stores, then sprayed bullets at workers and customers, according to police in the neighborhood.
Zayouna is a mixed Sunni-Shiite neighborhood, but has been considered a hot zone for Sunni insurgents. When Saddam Hussein led Iraq, many high-ranking army officers lived there.
