Rare photos from Korea's 1948 rebellion

Korean and U.S. soldiers watch large fires consume a village during an uprising in 1948. Two years before the Korean Peninsula erupted in a civil war, communist rebels -- many of whom had been in the American-trained Korean army -- revolted against President Syngman Rhee's regime. Photographer Carl Mydans was on the ground when the rebellion began.
