At least nine people were killed and more than 100 injured in an earthquake on Wednesday in eastern Afghanistan, officials said.
Ahmadzia Abdullzai spokesman for Nangarhar provincial governor, said children were among the casualties and he cited widespread structural damage.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a 5.6 magnitude quake in eastern Afghanistan near the Pakistani border Wednesday afternoon. Its epicenter was 15 miles west-northwest of Jalalabad and 59 miles east of Kabul.
