Texas Gov. Rick Perry has nominated a local judge to fill the role of district attorney in Kaufman County, replacing Mike McLelland, who was killed at his home in late March.

Erleigh Wiley, whose nomination must be confirmed by the state senate, is judge of the Kaufman County Court at Law.

Brandi Fernandez, the county’s first assistant district attorney, has been serving as interim district attorney since McLelland’s death.
