Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A car bomb exploded in eastern Afghanistan on Friday, killing three people and wounding 90 others, according to a provincial government spokesman.
The blast hit the capital of Wardak province, west of Kabul.
Casualties included women and children, said Shahidullah Shahid, the spokesman.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the morning attack in Maidan Shahr town. Zabiullah Mujahid, a spokesman for the militant group, said it was in retaliation for the execution of four members.
