(CNN) -- Greenland's ice sheet is the second largest ice mass in the world, but it's melting at an alarming rate say climate researchers.
Understanding why these changes are happening will be vital to informing how we react and adapt to global warming.
In a one-hour special, CNN's Fred Pleitgen follows a team from Germany's Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research as they develop new methods of mapping changes taking place to the frozen landscape.
From airborne surveys to ice-core drilling, "Secrets in the Ice" offers a unique insight into the work of researchers at the front line of climate science and a stunning glimpse at one of nature's most beautiful wildernesses.
