A fuel tanker rammed into a bridge and exploded into a ball of fire Thursday, killing 22 people and sending flames sweeping over the Saudi Arabia capital, state television reported.

In addition to the fatalities, at least 111 others were wounded, according to the report.

The accident occurred at a busy intersection in Riyadh.

It affected an unknown number of cars and left buildings with gaping windows.
