Six people were injured and one person died in a Saturday morning pileup along I-65 in Jasper County, Indiana, state police said.
The pileup involved more than a dozen vehicles and forced authorities to shut a portion of the interstate, they said.
The man killed was identified as 69-year-old Richard Swan of Frankfort, Indiana. He died at the scene.
Officials blamed fog and smoke from a nearby building fire for the massive accident.
