(CNN) -- Thirty people suffered minor injuries during an early morning fire at an apartment building in New York, a fire department official told CNN.

A fire department spokesman said 28 firefighters and two other people were injured after a six-alarm blaze started just after midnight in a Bronx neighborhood. The fire ignited on the top floor of the six-story building, spread through some apartments, and eventually the roof collapsed.

Firefighters fought the flames for about three and a half hours before putting it out.
