Mexican police arrest suspect after camp attack

(CNN) -- Authorities arrested a suspect Monday connected with a brutal attack at a Christian camp in central Mexico last week, state media said.
A group of 12 armed attackers ambushed the retreat, sexually assaulting seven minors and beating several young people, state prosecutors said.
The attack occurred in a wooded area in the municipality of Chalco, the state-run Notimex news agency said, citing Alfredo Castillo Cervantes, the attorney general of the state of Mexico.
When leaving, the attackers took multiple items from their victims, including cell phones, cameras and cash, authorities said. They also took two vehicles from the camp.
Because of spotty cell phone reception in the area, victims had to walk several miles in the dark Friday morning to report the attack to authorities.
Authorities have identified the suspects' names and matched them with photographs, Castillo said, according to Notimex.
The camp site was located about 20 miles (35 km) from Mexico City.
Mexico State Gov. Eruviel Avila said he has been in touch with the victims' families and that his government would provide psychological, legal and medical assistance to them.
"We will do everything in our power to catch those responsible and punish them," the governor said in a Twitter post.
