A chief adviser to the Democratic Republic of Congo's president died in a plane crash Sunday, officials said.
Augustin Katumba Mwanke was killed in the crash, which occurred near the eastern town of Bukavu, government spokesman Lambert Mende said. Mwanke was one of the most powerful people in President Joseph Kabila's inner circle.
The plane's pilot also died in the crash, Mende said. The nation's finance minister, a provincial governor and a former ambassador were injured but survived, officials said.
