At least 19 people died when a bus plunged down a gorge Friday in a mountainous region of Kashmir, authorities said.
One person was wounded in the accident in Indian -administered Kashmir.
The bus was headed to Doda when it slid off the road while making a turn in a village north of the main city of Jammu.
“Out of 20 passengers onboard, 19 died on the spot while the lone grievously injured has been rescued and is being airlifted to Jammu city for specialized treatment,” said Farooq Ahmad Khan, a local police official.
Rescue teams and police officers are at the scene helping to retrieve the bodies.
Road accidents in the mountainous district are common because of road conditions, speeding and overloading.
