(CNN) -- Mario Gomez scored his 17th league goal of the season as Bayern Munich beat Wolfsburg 2-0 on Saturday to keep them top of the pile in the Bundesliga.
After their shock 3-1 defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach last weekend, Bayern got their bid for a 22rd Bundesliga title back on track with Gomez's goal in the 60th minute with Arjen Robben bundling in a second during injury time.
Reigning champions Borussia Dortmund maintained their challenge at the top of the table with a 3-1 win over Hoffenheim.
Japanese winger Shinji Kagawa scored twice, opening his account in the 16th minute with Kevin Grosskreutz doubling the lead after half an hour.
Etuhu's African Cup of Nations analysis
Kagawa struck again ten minutes into the second half before Fabian Johnson grabbed what turned out to be a consolation goal for the visitors in the 63rd minute.
The win takes Dortmund level on 40 points with Bayern but with a marginally inferior goal difference.
Third-placed Schalke completed an emphatic 4-1 win over Cologne to boost their goal difference and join Bayern and Dortmund on 40 points.
Fourth-placed Monchengladbach can stay within one point of the leaders if they win at Stuttgart on Sunday.
Werder Bremen remain in fifth place after a 1-1 draw with sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen.
Hamburg earned three points with a 2-1 win at Hertha Berlin, while at the foot of the table strugglers Kaiserslautern drew 2-2 away to bottom side Augsburg.
