Five Mexican police officers and one civilian were killed in a shootout in a town southeast of Mexico City, the state-run Notimex news agency reported, citing officials.
The state of Mexico's Public Security Secretariat said that the policemen were traveling in two squad cars in the town of Ixtapaluca Monday when several men inside a "taxi-type" vehicle ambushed them, Notimex reported.
Four officers were shot dead inside their vehicles. Two other bodies were found on the street -- one, an officer, and another a civilian, the agency reported.
A second civilian was injured and transported to the hospital.
