Federal agents and Philadelphia police seized about $350,000 worth of counterfeit NHL jerseys and other fake merchandise from street vendors and international mailers at the Winter Classic between the New York Rangers and the Philadelphia Flyers.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that nine street vendors and 150 international mail parcels were targeted in the operation in recent days, which culminating with the annual outdoor showcase played Monday.
The NHL praised the crackdown on the counterfeit goods, which victimize the hockey league and other trademark holders of sports merchandise. Officials said the 1,649 counterfeit items seized also carried trademarks of Major League Baseball, the NFL, the NBA, and the NCAA.
