(CNN) -- An Israeli teenager who was wounded on a bus attack earlier this month died from his injuries Sunday, police said.
A school bus was traveling in southern Israel near the Gaza border when it was hit by a type of anti-tank missile known as a Kornet on April 7, the Israeli military said.
A 16-year-old boy, identified in local media as Daniel Viflic, was the only passenger on the bus at the time, officials said.
He died of his wounds at Soroka Hospital Sunday, police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld told CNN.
Hamas took responsibility for the attack, saying the strike was in retaliation for the killing of three Hamas leaders the week before.
Hamas controls the Palestinian government in Gaza. Listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, Hamas has carried out dozens of terrorist attacks killing Israelis and others.
