(CNN) -- Flash floods in the Philippines have killed 25 people and damaged 264 homes, government officials said.

The rain began late Tuesday night and caused areas of the Pangi River to overflow into villages in Davao City, according to a report from the country's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

More than 12,000 families have been effected by the floods, the reoport states. Flood waters reached record levels of 10 feet in the city but had already begun to subside by Wednesday morning.

Officials from the Philippine Coast Guard and Davao firefighters and rescue services were assisting in the evacuation of affected families.
