(CNN) -- An investigation continued Monday after a subway shooting in Chile's capital left at least three dead and four injured over the weekend.

Authorities said a gunman killed two people when he opened fire inside a subway car at a Santiago metro station Sunday. Minutes later, the suspected gunman killed himself outside the Plaza de Maipu station, CNN Chile reported.

The Investigative Police of Chile said the shooter was a former janitor for the agency. He was relieved of his duties in 1994 after repeated misconduct, police said.

Authorities were still investigating the shooting, CNN Chile reported.
