In Alexandria, clashes erupt

Alexandria, Egypt (CNN) -- Violence erupted Friday in the Egyptian city of Alexandria, according to CNN reporters on the scene.

Tear gas was fired at people running through the streets toward the city's central square, and water cannons were being brought in by security forces for use on protesters.

At least 1,000 protesters are in the streets as youths hurled rocks through the black cloud of tear gas toward police.
