(CNN) -- Marines were rushed to hospitals in southern California Wednesday following a helicopter crash in the northern section of Camp Pendleton, the Marine Corps base.

Three marines were receiving treatment at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla, hospital spokeswoman Lisa Ohmstede said.

At least one other was taken to Mission Hospital in Orange County with serious injuries, CNN affiliate KGTV reported.

Six people were aboard the helicopter, which crashed at approximately noon Wednesday, a Marine Corps statement said.

No further information is available on the extent of their injuries.

The helicopter was a UH-1Y (Huey) that belonged to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.

Camp Pendleton fire department and emergency services responded immediately to the crash, which also sparked a small fire, KGTV said.

Marine officials are investigating the cause of the incident.
