(CNN) -- Some days are real turkeys.

Tuesday was more fowl than most for Michigan resident Darlene Fochtman after one of the birds paid a visit around lunchtime.

The feathers began to fly when she heard a loud crash and the sound of shattering glass at her home in Comstock Park.

"I peeked and there was a turkey standing at the bottom of the stairs," Fochtman said, expressing some relief at finding the critter in her house rather than a human. "I thought we had an intruder."

"It blew glass through the front window, probably between 12 and 15 feet into the room," Fochtman told CNN affiliate WZZM-TV. "There are shards of glass everywhere. Feathers, poo and papers ... it's a mess."

Interrupted during a Facebook session, she immediately went back to social networking.

"911. What do I do? I have a turkey in my basement," she posted to her account.

Fochtman soon returned with camcorder in hand to catch the ramblings of the feathered house guest who eventually roosted in the family's computer room.

Her husband came home from work to help round up the free-range bird, using a fishing net to corral the gobbler long enough to shoo the visitor out the door.

"My hero," Darlene Fochtman cheered.

Now free of the bird, this bout with wild turkey would only leave a minor hangover.
