(CNN) -- A wildfire near Fort Collins, Colorado, spread over 2,000 acres and forced the evacuation of about 325 homes Sunday, according to the Larimer County, Colorado, Sheriff's spokesman.
The "Crystal Fire's" flames "died down significantly as winds have calmed," but the evacuation order was extended to include the Redstone Canyon area, spokesman John Schulz said Sunday.
Residents of the Davis Ranch Road area in Rist Canyon were placed on alert for possible evacuation, Schulz said.
A second evacuation center was opened at an elementary school in Loveland, Colorado, he said.
"Smoke is evident in the city of Fort Collins," he said.
