(CNN) -- Two Louisiana State University football players were suspended indefinitely Friday after Baton Rouge police issued arrest warrants charging them with second-degree battery in connection with a brawl outside a bar.
The players are quarterback Jordan Jefferson and linebacker Joshua Johns. Police contacted their attorney, Nathan Fisher, and LSU Coach Les Miles and asked that the two turn themselves in.
"Jordan and Josh have been suspended indefinitely," Miles said. "We will continue to cooperate with the authorities in an effort to find out exactly what took place during the incident."
Police are investigating an August 19 fight outside Shady's Bar near the LSU campus. Four people told police they were treated at a hospital for injuries in the altercation. Police interviewed witnesses to the brawl.
"Preliminary investigation information indicates that the fight started after an individual, one of the four injured, blew his horn to move a crowd out of his way in the parking lot," police said.
LSU is ranked No. 4 in Associated Press Top 25 preseason rankings.
According to LSU bios, Jefferson, a senior, has been a starter for two years and was expected to start again this year. Johns, a sophomore, is a backup linebacker who was expected to play on special teams.
"As sad as this incident is, it's important that we learn from this and that we take away a valuable lesson," Miles said. "This has weighed on all of us. It's time for us to come together as a team and focus on what we are here to do."
