Los Angeles (CNN) -- Featuring something old and something new, singer Bob Dylan rolls onto the Grammy stage this weekend for a performance with Best New Artist nominee Mumford & Sons and roots rockers The Avett Brothers.

Dylan will be featured during a segment Sunday on the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards, said Ken Ehrlich, the executive producer of the telecast.

"I've put Mumford & Sons together with The Avett Brothers, and that by itself I'm just really looking forward to," Ehrlich said. "But there's a slight payoff at the end. There's someone named Bob Dylan who's going to perform with them."

Ehrlich said the pairing is important, "because without Bob Dylan they wouldn't be on the stage."

During a career spanning five decades, Dylan has stretched the boundaries of folk and rock music with simple storytelling songs, but also songs that play out like hallucinatory adventures.

In addition to its Best New Artist nod, London-based Mumford & Sons are nominated for Best Rock Song for "Little Lion Man."

Traces of folk, rock, country and bluegrass can be found in their tunes.

The music of The Avett Brothers from Concord, North Carolina, is solidly footed in folk and bluegrass.

"Mumford has great sound. The Avetts have great harmonies," Ehrlich said. "So all of that came from Bob ... that whole singer-songwriter era. Well, that's what Avett is. That's what Mumford is ... but with a new twist to it."
