(CNN) -- A man accused of stalking socialite Paris Hilton and her boyfriend was charged with violating a court-issued "stay-away" order Tuesday, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said.
James Brian Rainford, 36, was arrested outside Hilton's Malibu, California, home Monday in violation of the order. Paparazzi notified the Sheriff's Department after identifying the defendant, authorities said.
Hilton tweeted, "My stalker needs to leave me alone #Creep," Tuesday afternoon.
The charge is a misdemeanor and bail has been set at $20,000. Rainford is scheduled to be arraigned later Tuesday.
Rainford was initially arrested in October on a battery charge involving Hilton and her boyfriend. He was prosecuted by the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office, which issued the order.
A stay-away order is similar to a restraining order in that it mandates how far away the subject of the order must stay from the person being protected.
