Washington (CNN) -- CNN has compiled a list of the U.S. cities with the most casualties in Operation Enduring Freedom, taking place in Afghanistan.

Note that members of the military can list anywhere they want as a hometown: their base, their enlistment site or where they grew up.

1) San Antonio: 17

2) Houston: 10

3 - tie) Chicago: 9

Tucson, Arizona: 9

5) San Diego: 8

6) Mesa, Arizona: 7

7 - tie) Brooklyn, New York: 6

El Paso, Texas: 6

Fayetteville, North Carolina: 6

Las Vegas: 6

11 - tie) Colorado Springs, Colorado: 5

Columbus, Georgia: 5

Jacksonville, Florida: 5

Los Angeles: 5

Orlando: 5

Philadelphia: 5
