Suspicious U-Haul prompts brief evacuation of Florida courthouse

Miami (CNN) -- A federal courthouse in West Palm Beach, Florida, was evacuated Monday because of a U-Haul vehicle parked outside, but authorities cleared the vehicle after an investigation, a city spokesman said.

The vehicle, which was rented out of Utah, was parked outside the building for about a day, according to West Palm Beach city spokesman Chase Scott.

A bomb-sniffing dog had alerted to the possible presence of explosives, Scott said. Local authorities and the Department of Homeland Security investigated, along with the U.S. Marshals Service.

"We immediately evacuated the courthouse, some adjacent buildings including a state department facility, closed the post office, cordoned off an area and have our bomb squad on scene investigating exactly what we're dealing with here," Scott said.

An all-clear was given about 10 a.m. ET on Monday.
