(CNN) -- Two men were being held in a Texas jail on Wednesday in last week's slaying of a pastor and the brutal beating of his assistant, an attack called an "unspeakable tragedy."
Steven Lawayne Nelson and Anthony Gregory Springs are in Arlington city jail on charges of capital murder and attempted capital murder, police said.
Rev. Clint Dobson was found dead in the NorthPointe Baptist Church in Arlington on Thursday and his assistant Judy Elliott was beaten badly.
Dobson's funeral is scheduled on Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Arlington. NorthPointe Baptist is a satellite congregation of the First Baptist Church.
Dennis Wiles, First Baptist senior pastor, wrote on his church's website that "obviously, we are all in shock as we try to come to grips with this unspeakable tragedy."
"As you know, Clinton did not survive the events of that afternoon. While I write these words, Judy's life hangs in the balance," Wiles said.
A affidavit filed by one of the officers investigating the case said Dobson had been suffocated in the course of a robbery.
