Gaza City (CNN) -- Two Palestinian militants were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza Thursday, Palestinian medical sources told CNN.

Four other Palestinians were injured, medical officials said, but it was unclear if they were targeted or were simply passers-by.

The Israeli military confirmed that there was air force activity above Gaza City, and said a statement was forthcoming.

One of the dead belonged to the Eiz El-Dein al-Qassam militant wing of Hamas, the group's website said. It identified the other casualty as a member of the al- Aqsa Martyrs' Brigade militant wing of Hamas.

According to the website, the deceased were relatives.

CNN's Talal Abu Rahma, Kareem Khadder and Kevin Flower contributed to this report.
