Mark Goudeau, the so-called Baseline Killer convicted of murdering nine people, was sentenced to death Wednesday by an Arizona jury.
Goudeau, 47, also had been found guilty on a variety of other charges, including sexual assault, armed robbery and kidnapping.
Jurors found that Goudeau, already serving a 438-year sentence for a 2005 rape connected to the Baseline Killer crimes, was eligible for the death penalty after agreeing with prosecutors that the murders were especially cruel.
According to police, the crime spree began with robberies and sexual assaults, then escalated to murder.
Many of the crimes occurred near Baseline Road in Phoenix.
