A crash between a minivan and a semitrailer truck killed seven people and injured four others in eastern Indiana, authorities said Friday.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday on a toll road between Bristol and Middlebury, police said.
A preliminary report shows the minivan, which was carrying 10 people, may have hit a deer and stopped on the driving lane of a toll road, said Sgt. Trent Smith of Indiana State Police.
It was hit from behind by the tractor trailer, he said.
In addition to the seven killed, three people in the van and the driver of the truck were hospitalized.
