Violence erupts in Syrian village

Military personnel were killed and injured when Syrian soldiers and gunmen believed to be dissidents battled on Thursday, an activist group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the clashes occurred in the Homs province village of Al-Burhaniya, located in the western part of the country.

Two of the army's armored personnel carriers were immobilized in the fighting, the group said. The precise numbers of deaths and injuries were not immediately known.
