(CNN) -- A single engine plane crashed into a field in Connecticut on Sunday, killing the pilot, authorities said.

The small plane went down near a Danbury residential neighborhood, and was reported by a woman who heard the crash outside her house, said city Fire Chief Geoffrey Herald.

No injuries were reported on the ground, he said.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane was a Cirrus SR 22 enroute to Danbury Municipal Airport.

The control tower lost communication with the plane shortly before it went down, said FAA spokesman Jim Peters.

CNN's Dominique Debucquoy-Dodley contributed to this report.
