(CNN) -- Three people were injured in an apparent car bombing in Monroe, Michigan, police said.
All three of the people were in the car at the time the explosion took place, about 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said in a statement. All three were hospitalized in serious condition.
Further details concerning the origin of the explosion were not immediately available. The investigation is being handled by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, as well as the Michigan State Police.
Monroe is about 40 miles south of Detroit.
