Iraqi violence claims 3, including a police official

(CNN) -- Gunmen in Iraq's Salaheddin province stormed a senior police official's house late Tuesday and killed him, police said.

Maj. Saeed Abbas, director of the al-Jilam police station, was shot to death inside the house, police said.

Incidents in and around Baghdad Tuesday evening killed two people and wounded 18 others, officials with Baghdad police said.

A roadside bomb exploded in Kadhimiya Shiite neighborhood in northwestern Baghdad, wounding six civilians. In Um al-Maalif, a roadside bomb exploded in an outdoor market, wounding four civilians.

And a roadside bomb exploded outside al-Rasool Sunni mosque in Tarmiya, north of Baghdad. The explosion occurred while worshipers were leaving the mosque after they finished the night prayers. Two people were killed and eight others wounded, police said.
