Ramallah, West Bank (CNN) -- Security and border-issues were the main topics on the agenda Thursday at a meeting between Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and U.S. Middle East Envoy George Mitchell.
The two men met Thursday at the presidential compound in Ramallah, part of indirect talks between Israeli and Palestinian authorities.
The meeting was not open to the press, but chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erakat described it for reporters. He said Abbas remains committed to using the borders established in 1967 when discussing border- and security-related issues.
Mitchell and Abbas also talked about ongoing Israeli activities in East Jerusalem -- specifically, the demolition of homes, the deportation of deputies, and the use of roadblocks around the West Bank.
The men discussed the situation in Gaza, as well. Erakat said Abbas insisted that the Israeli blockade should be completely lifted to allow all goods into Gaza.
The meeting between Mitchell and Abbas is part of a four-month, U.S.-mediated effort to restart the stalled peace process.
