Baghdad, Iraq (CNN) -- Eleven people were killed and 21 were wounded Thursday when a suicide bomber struck a checkpoint in Ramadi, Iraq, an Iraqi Interior Ministry official said.
The deaths and injuries included civilians and police officers, the official said.
The joint police and army checkpoint is close to the provincial council office.
Ramadi, the capital of Iraq's Anbar province, is 68 miles (about 110 kilometers) west of Baghdad.
